50 For 50 - A Wine Farm Adventure

I’m a member of an incredible wine lover’s group on Facebook. The people there are fun, helpful, and far more knowledgeable than I am about wine. To be sure, I’m a lurker. I might comment when I see something that piques my interest or when someone makes a suggestion I’m keen on, but other than that, I’m as quiet as a mouse.

So, when a member commented that he planned to visit 70 wine farms for his turning 70, I thought that was a heck of an idea. Since I turned 50, we’re doing a “50 for 50” tour. 50 new wine farms in my 50th year.

Pairings For The Win!

It would be simple to do just 50 tastings (and there will be some, for sure), but to make this a grand adventure we’re looking at doing as many pairings as possible…the more unique the better.

Some of the ones we’re looking at are:

  • Tartlet and Wine @ Stellenzicht

  • Biltong and Wine @ Alto

  • Pancakes and Wine @ Uitkyk

  • Pizza and Wine @ Mulderbosch

  • Braiibroodjie and Wine @ Middelvlei

  • Seafood and Wine @ Seven Sisters

So you can see, the more interesting the better.

We’re also focusing on the smaller, “non-Disney” wine farms. It’s been my experience that the more ‘commercial’ farms have wines that are good on their own, but when tasted with others of the same vintage and varietal from the non-commercial farms…they tend to fall a little flat.

So stay tuned, and visit the Tastings and Pairings page to stay up on our adventures.
