Du Vin Restaurant at Kanu Wine Farm
One of the things I love most about living in South Africa is the ability to pop off to a wine farm to have lunch on a random afternoon. Yesterday was no exception.
After running some errands, and because we really haven’t been out of the house much lately, we decided to stop in for lunch at Du Vin restaurant on the Kanu wine farm.
One thing you should know is that Kanu is one of our favorite wine farms. It’s beautifully decorated, has a great view of the mountains, and all of their wines are fantastic. It’s where we experienced a sushi and wine pairing a few months back.
Did I also tell you that Du Vin does Asian fusion food? They do…and it did not disappoint.
Starter
We both started off with the Tuna Tataki. This is seared tuna with a papaya chili and ponzu salsa. At first Kim opted for the Kudu Carpaccio, but they were sold out. I guess that gives us a reason to go back (as if we needed one!)
Wine
We went with really the only wine we hadn’t tasted yet, their 2020 Viognier. It’s a slightly oaked white wine with hints of honeysuckle, rose, and tangerine. It balanced perfectly with the meal.
Main Course
Next, I went with the Korean Fried Chicken while Kim had the Shrimp and Soba Noodle. I have to say, the amount of chicken in my dish was incredible. The chicken was cooked perfectly and there was so much, I’m snacking on it today!
Dessert
We finished off lunch with a cheesecake to share. With a berry compote, lemon lime ice cream, and lime meringue was the perfect end to the meal.
It was a great way to spend the afternoon. It wasn’t crowded, the weather was perfect, and we were able to enjoy it by sitting out on the patio. Our host, Melody, was amazing as well.
Naturally, we also came home with some of their Rifle Range White, a nice, easy drinking white wine with notes of citrus, vanilla, and elderflower. It’s one of those perfect wines for a hot summer’s day.
If you’re in or around Stellenbosch, you owe it to yourself to stop by Du Vin at Kanu for a tasting or a meal.
